beginnersguide

Welcome to Upside Down Universe

First of all. Thank you for joining the server. As a new player. We know it can be a bit of a learning curve to wrap your head around a custom server, and therefore we have built this guide to help you get started with the most basic things that make us unique.

It is also a good idea to read the other resources in “Getting Started on Upside Down”

  • No airtightness
  • Store your tools, bottles and items in cargo before logging off!
  • Asteroids are reset every last Friday of the month.
  • It's a heavy PvP server, so hide well!
  • Ammunition made in UD is not made in Assemblers but instead in a modded block called the Ammunition Factory. This does not include Nukes and Swarm Missiles which can ONLY be made at the Ammunition Station when activated.

There is a cleanup and maintanence process that happens at each restart that you need to be aware of or risk losing your grids.

  • We will NOT wipe the server. Your grids will not be erased for a reset. If your grid is missing, you probably skipped this guide and that's ok.
  • We do reset asteroids every month. This will not generate new asteroids in new locations but will restore the existings ones back to new.
  • Planets other than Thora are not reset. Dig a hole and it will remain until the server experiences issues that require it to be reset. We will warn players in advance.
  • 00:00
  • 06:00
  • 12:00
  • 18:00

Meet any one of the following requirements to ensure your grid is not removed:

  • All powered grids will remain. Having a power block itself is not sufficient, the grid must be actively powered. A dead battery, reactor with no fuel, etc will *NOT* be counted as a powered grid.
  • Grids with production blocks (Assemblers/Refineries) will not be removed if they are functional.
  • At least 20 blocks.
  • Minimum distance from an online player of 5KM
  • The entire grid must have at least 1 block owned by a player.

Meet any of the following conditions will guarentee removal regardless of the previous list.

  • Respawn ship
    • You can look at the grid and type in chat !fixship to remove the respawn status.
  • Grids with no owner
    • If its a wall of armour, it has no owner and you should expect it to get removed)
  • Grids without the *CORRECT* faction tag in the name.
    • If you are not a member of a faction, this will not be required but this rule will change.
    • You *MUST have your faction tag in the grid name. You cannot use a random tag.
    • The capitalization or location of the tag is not important. Fac.MyAwesomeMiner and MyAWesomeMiner_FAC are both valid.

To ensure after restars the servers are operating at their best we also disable the following blocks:

  • Timer Blocks
  • Programmable Blocks
  • Refineries
  • Asemblers
  • Projectors
  • Sensors
  • Pistons
  • Rotors
  • Gravity Generators
  • O2/H2 Generators
  • Welders
  • Grinders
  • Drills
  • Lights
  • Read the info screens in your spawn ship!
  • Respawn ships dissappear when you log out from the server. Use !fixship while looking at it, to keep it!
  • You need to rename your grid to FactionTag.GridPurpose in the info tab. Example:
  • Make sure to vote in game using !vote link to get the website, when done use !vote claim to receive your rewards.
  • You will get needed items such as food and high tier tools to get you started.
  • You can vote daily!!

Dockyard

We give you the ability to save your grids in your own personal dock. While the grids are in port, they are safe from any harm and reduce the load on the server. Read more about how to use it here: Dockyard Commands

Quantum Computers (QC) and Thorium

Quantum Computers is a unique component on UD. It is uses to build most non-standard blocks. You can get QC through different means:

  • Voting on our server [Read more here](/staff/vote-donations#vote-rewards)
  • Mining Thorium from the craters on Thora or from the Thora Asteroid that appears on a regular schedule.
  • Loot grids spawned in randomly (GPS locations are provided to all players, do not expect a safe experience).

Titanium

Titanium is our endgame material, and is only used for the most powerful armour blocks. You can only obtain Titanium at the following:

  • Titanium asteroid that spawns on a regular schedule.
  • Loot grids spawned in randomly (GPS locations are provided to all players, do not expect a safe experience).

MK Blocks

On UD we have a lot of blocks marked MKx (x being a number) all these blocks increase in their primary ability by a factor of the previous tier.

WeaponCore (weapons)

All our weapons are powered by a mod called WeaponCore.

Block Limits

Soon to be replaced with a new system and new limits!

All our limits are available on the Limits Page
